ShopTalk: Enhance Your Storytelling Through Family and Culture

Join us for our July 13 Shop Talk when Sandra Aguirre-Magana will talk to us about Storytelling. It’s a performance art, but it’s also a process of using family and culture to develop stories with meanings that are relatable to all people.

Sandra will explore how storytelling inspired her self-published books, ¿Quién Es La Llorona? and The Hairy Hand Visits. She’ll take us through the steps she uses to write memorable stories based on her family and culture.

You can sample storytelling as performance art prior to the workshop with Sandra’s concert of “El Pajaro Cu.”

Sandra is a volunteer on our Equity & Inclusion team. The purpose of the team is to support and welcome underrepresented voices in kidlit here in New Mexico and west Texas region, which is part of a larger SCBWI national initiative.

Shop talks are scheduled on the second Tuesday of every month, and they are always 6:30-8:00 pm.
